Meet Carrie's Designer Soyon An
As Carrie Underwood was planning her “Play On” tour, she hired Soyon An, costume designer for So You Think You Can Dance and American Idol, to create the perfect outfits for the country superstar. People.com caught up with Soyon to talk about Carrie’s Play On attire. For her first song, “She starts off with a white jacket on the top, and then she takes that off to reveal the Swarovski crystal criss-cross halter,” Soyon tells People. Many have compared this catsuit type outfit to something that would be worn by another superstar, J-Lo. Soyon adds, “She wasn’t intimidated at all–she was ready for it. It’s a tough look but it’s her attitude–and obviously she’s got the body for it.” In total, Soyon designed 14 separate outfits and 29 different looks for Carrie to use throughout the “Play On” tour.
Soyon An designs the costumes you see season after season and week after week on So You Think You Can Dance. Whether it’s the wardrobe for a couple’s routine or a group number, Soyon is involved with creating and designing the pieces. In addition, Soyon dresses Executive Producer and Judge Nigel Lythgoe.
Here is Soyon An with the Emmy she took home for So You Think You Can Dance.
