Carrie Underwood, Volunteers Build Playground in Her Hometown

From CMT.com...
Carrie Underwood returned to her hometown of Checotah, Okla., to work with more than 200 volunteers who gathered Friday (Oct. 14) to build a playground at Marshall Elementary School. Underwood's mother, Carole, who taught in the local school system, was among those pitching in for the project undertaken by the singer's C.A.T.S. Foundation (Checotah Animal, Town, and School Foundation) and the national nonprofit organization, KaBOOM! Underwood created the foundation in 2009 to contribute to the community, including the school system's music program and the local animal shelter. She spent much of Friday painting a mural, planting vegetation and assembling playground components. The entire playground was built in less than eight hours. "We had the most amazing day putting together something truly special for the kids and the community," Underwood said. "I'm so proud that so many volunteered their time to be here today."
