Dinner with Mike Fisher and Carrie Underwood? Bidding starts at $7,500

OTTAWA — If you could sit down to dinner with someone famous who would it be? If your answer is Ottawa Senators centre Mike Fisher and/or his country-singing wife, Carrie Underwood, then check this out: the couple has volunteered to be dinner dates with the highest bidder at a charity event happening Tuesday.

The opening bid is $7,500.

The fundraiser is being held by brothers Richard and Robert Valente, owners of Fratelli restaurant. The $150-a-ticket night is taking place at their Kanata location on Terry Fox Drive and will raise money for the Ottawa Senators Foundation’s charity of choice, the Roger’s House pediatric palliative care facility, as well as Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Support Programs.

Fisher has been a loyal customer and good friend over the past decade, Richard Valente said. The hockey star is also honorary chairman of Roger’s House.

“Anytime I do something (charitable), I call him and he’s quick to say ‘Yes’,” said Valente. “This time he said, for the first time ever, ‘Throw in a dinner with me and Carrie’.”

Carrie Underwood: 'I Hope Those Motherly Instincts Are in Me'

From People.com...

First comes marriage and then comes baby?

Not anytime soon for Carrie Underwood.

"Oh, it's going to be awhile," she tells InStyle magazine. "The other night, [husband Mike Fisher] was with some friends and their kids, and he sent me a funny text saying, 'Watching my friend's kids ... Let's wait a while.'"

But 27-year-old Underwood, who tied the knot in July, has her own personal concerns with having children. "I didn't grow up around kids, and I hope those motherly instincts are in me," she says. "I'm sure they are, but I don't know what to talk about with a 4-year-old!"

The Southern songstress is busy enough settling into newlywed life. "With Mike, there was not a doubt in my head," Underwood says of the entire relationship with her hockey beau. "I like missing him. I like looking forward to something."

Sons of Sylvia's Adam Clark talks about touring with Carrie Underwood

USA Today reports...

Hi there, Lindsay Deutsch here. Last night I went to the Baltimore, Md. stop on Carrie Underwood's Play On tour. It was quite a show--an energetic crowd, glittery costumes, dynamic sets and of course plenty of singing. The night was full of surprises ... let's just say there was a flying pickup truck involved. Stay tuned for show highlights.

I caught up with opener Sons of Sylvia's oldest trio member, mandolin-playing Adam Clark, outside after last night's Carrie Underwood show, standing nondescriptly near his tour bus about 100 feet from where a group of Underwood fans waited anxiously for her to exit the venue.

"She's not going to come out," he deadpans, watching the crowd with an amused smile. "She never does until all the fans leave."

Billy Currington & Carrie Underwood's Dogs Didn't 'Ace' First Meeting

Billy Currington has been on the road with Carrie Underwood this fall, and it has been a pretty quiet and non-eventful tour without any crazy antics so far.

What hasn't been quiet on the tour is Carrie's rat terrier, Ace. The two country artists are carrying along their four-legged companions on the road, and Billy reports the first meeting between Ace and his four-year-old chocolate Lab, Paco, was less than successful.

"They met [laughs]. It didn't go too good," Billy laughingly tells The Boot. "It was a two-second meeting. She was actually holding her dog, and it was yapping, and Paco was just kind of looking at it like, 'Whoa! What's wrong here?' So, they never got a meeting on the ground together, but they eventually will ... maybe."

Other than the meeting of the dogs, there really haven't been many stories from the road, however, that could change if Billy has his way. "It's so new," Billy says. "Her tour is pretty quiet, pretty calm. It's not like a Brad Paisley tour where people are playing pranks all the time, or a Kenny Chesney tour where it's crazy everywhere. So, I don't know if anything will happen. That's yet to see. We may have to create something. [laughs]"

Concert Review: Carrie Underwood, further idolized at Prudential Center in Newark

She flashed those game-show chops that helped her secure the popular vote on "American Idol." Carrie Underwood, an impressively forceful singer and surprisingly effective storyteller, belted out her best for more than ninety minutes at a sold-out Prudential Center in Newark. Underwood, who has made her name by straddling the line between Nashville industrial-strength country music and MOR pop, barely needed a break to breathe. And when she finally took one -- right after the barn-burner “Undo It” -- she felt the need to apologize to the crowd.

Underwood is five years removed from her prime time win, but she still has the controlled demeanor of a television performer. The Oklahoma native is likeable, but somewhat emotionally remote. She does not stride into wild-girl country rock territory, as Gretchen Wilson does, or indulge in drama club antics like Taylor Swift, or spazz out, cartoon-style, like Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland. She keeps her act machine-pressed and maintains her impeccable appearance for the stadium‘s video cameras. Even when she goes for those high notes on those heartrending ballads of hers, she remembers to smile. She told the audience, twice, that she considered herself incredibly fortunate. In a sense she still seems to be basking in a victory.

Release Date for "Soul Surfer" Set

FilmDistrict, the new distribution company under the GK Films umbrella, will release “Soul Surfer,” the true story of teen surfer Bethany Hamilton, as its first film.

The movie, which stars Dennis Quaid, Helen Hunt, AnnaSophia Robb and Carrie Underwood in her film debut, will hit theaters nationwide on April 15. Hamilton survived a shark attack, in which she lost her left arm. In 2003, she returned to surfing, winning the ESPY Award for best comeback athlete of the year the following year.

Directed by Sean McNamara, “Surfer” was independently financed by Enticing Entertainment and Island Film Group, and is a production of Mandalay Vision, Brookwell McNamara Entertainment and Life's A Beach Entertainment.

The screenplay, based on Hamilton's memoir “Soul Surfer: A True Story of Faith, Family and Fighting to Get Back on the Board,” was written by McNamara, Michael Berk, Douglas Schwartz and Deborah Bonann Schwartz, with additional writing by Ron Bass, Jen Smolka and Kara Holden.

The film, shot on location in Hawaii, was produced by David Zelon, Douglas Schwartz, David Brookwell, McNamara and Roy "Dutch" Hofstetter, and executive produced by David Tice and Dominic Ianno.

“Steve Bersch and I immediately responded to the honesty of Bethany's story and its universal message of courage and perseverance,” said Peter Schlessel, CEO of FilmDistrict, who initiated and approved the production with Bersch while at Sony, and then forged the partnership between Sony and the newly formed FilmDistrict for release of the film.

“It's the perfect family film for the spring break season,” Bob Berney, Film District theatrical distribution president said.

Carrie Underwood Co-Writes and Records End Title Song for THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: THE VOYAGE OF THE DAWN TREADER

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Multi-platinum selling recording artist, songwriter, and 5-time Grammy winner Carrie Underwood has recorded the end title song, “There’s a Place for Us,” for the holiday motion picture event THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: THE VOYAGE OF THE DAWN TREADER in theaters December 10th.

Underwood agreed to co-write (with David Hodges and Hillary Lindsey) and record the song, produced by her famed, multi-platinum producer Mark Bright, after the filmmakers screened for them a rough cut of the picture.

Underwood commented: “I’m a big fan of the ‘Narnia’ books and films, so I was really excited about seeing this new movie and writing and performing a song for it. I was blown away by the film, and I think people are going to be really excited when they see it. It’s the perfect holiday film.

“THE VOYAGE OF THE DAWN TREADER presents an imaginative world that’s also relatable because it’s easy to connect the characters and themes to our own lives,” Underwood continues. “The land of Narnia represents a place where the young heroes truly belong. That inspired me to get together with David and Hillary and write ‘There’s a Place for Us,’ which says that for everybody, there’s a place where you’re powerful and where you belong. The movie and song are about finding that place where you fit in.”

“There’s a Place for Us” will receive major broadcast and online debuts this month, and will be available for purchase exclusively at iTunes on November 16th.

International cover versions of Underwood’s song will be recorded overseas in a small number of select countries, broadening the impact of this worldwide release.
