Provo » Kayla Albo considers herself Carrie Underwood’s biggest fan.
She has been to nine concerts, including Saturday’s Stadium of Fire. And the 18-year-old Broomfield, Colo., resident even packed a sign saying, “Carrie, please take me backstage and change my life.”
Yet Albo and the 50,000 people at LaVell Edwards Stadium got a bonus. Underwood, an “American Idol” winner and country star, performed the national anthem at the start of the show, a surprise the producers packed into the annual Independence Day extravaganza of song, patriotism and, of course, fireworks.
“I thought it was awesome that she could serve her country and sing,” Albo said of Underwood’s performance.
